Exolgan Container Terminal – a member of the PSA Group – welcomed the Rio de Janeiro Express alongside on its maiden voyage on 7 November 2022 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At 335 metres long and 51 metres wide, the Rio de Janeiro Express is the largest container vessel to enter the Río de la Plata water basin which provides access to the ports in Central and Northern Argentina.

To commemorate the event, the Exolgan management team presented the captain of the vessel with a commemorative plaque together with local and regional shipping line or customer representatives.

CEO of ITL (comprising of Exolgan and Exologista) Roberto Negro said that the arrival of the Rio de Janeiro Express is an extremely important milestone for Exolgan Container Terminal: “This was a team effort. It required a lot of preliminary work even before the vessel was allowed to enter our port. We simulated the ships’ manoeuvres to enter and exit the port and coordinated closely with representatives of Hapag Lloyd, the Navigation Control Authority (Coast Guard), Pilots, Port Authority and other stakeholders.”

The Rio de Janeiro Express was built in 2022 and has a capacity of 13,328 TEUs as well as 2,220 plugs for reefer containers. The ship has state-of-the-art features that reduce CO2 emissions and energy use, such as a hybrid gas scrubber and silicon propellor that increases energy efficiency.
